How to use 16 Personalities for Character Developement

Have you ever been stuck deciding how your character would act in a certain situation? Or had trouble with keeping your character’s personality consistent? Or maybe you’re just creating a new character.

I have found to be an excellent tool for character development.

What is it?

16 Personalities is a site to get a concrete, accurate description of who you are and why you do things the way you do, for free. And I can attest, as I’ve taken the test myself (INFJ Proud!), it’s freakishly accurate.

What’s so great about it?

When you first access the site you’ll find the 16 personality types and they’ll look something like this:

From this page, you’ll select the one that best fits your character. Then the magic happens.  These are all the categories that you can explore:

The most useful for me is the strengths and weaknesses but as you can see there are many other useful categories. While this won’t make your character unique or make their backstory for them. It will help you understand their basic structure and keep them consistent.

How do you use it?

It’s simple!

1.) Go to

2.) Click on Personality types.

3.) Explore.

For those that create Character Boards on Pinterest (Character Development Cards Board), I’ll be sharing all 16 personalities with the strengths & weaknesses for you to utilize on your boards! They will look like this:

I hope you will find this tool useful. If you liked what you saw don’t forget to like and comment below with the personality type of your characters. Or better yet, you!
